A Powerful Book

Today in class we read Piggybook by Anthony Browne. It was a great way to start a discussion about everyone doing their part in the classroom so that we will have a productive "Reading Community". We enjoyed hearing your input about cleaning up after yourselves, sharing the work equally in groups, and helping others out when they need it. Piggybook is such a simple book with a very deep meaning.  We noticed many things in the illustrations that add to the meaning of the story.  As you look at the cover of the book, what do you think the illustration means? What does it make you think of?

The cover looks like the dad and thier two sons are lazy because the mom is like there maid beacause if you look at the cover you see the dad is on the mom's back like a piggy back ride and then one of the sons is on the dad's back like a piggy back and the same for the other son.The cover just looks like they are lazy. Thats what it looks like on the cover and it reminds me about a maid doing everything for the two sons and the dad. -Sydney F.

I like the Piggy Book because it teaches a lesson that everybody needs to do their part. The illustration on the cover shows the mom trying to hold everyone. It makes me think that the mom is going to do all the work!

The illustration on the cover of the book looks like people doing a piggyback ride which makes sense with the title.

I agree with Sydney, Lauren and Abby. The mom is like a maid and does all the work. The dad and the children don't respect the mother that much.It does teach a lesson and we do need to do are part. The dad and the kids are lazy and disrespectful. Lauren and Syndey said it looks like a piggyback ride on the cover. Which I agree with them it does look like a piggy back ride. The title matches the covers illustration just like Lauren said.

When my teacher Ms.Launey first, read PiggyBook, I learned to not be lazy and do my work when I have to do it.
